PostSubject: Before applying, here's some basic Murloc stuff you should know.   Sat Nov 22, 2008 2:17 pm

Hi! I'm glad that you're interested in our little community. I worked with the Oracles on a little compilation of guidelines and basics for people who are looking into becoming a Murloc, and we're glad that you're taking the time to read it.

As a guild, we try to come together to help out one another. This could be with professions, questions about classes, or anything really. We encourage everybody to speak up when they need some help, just as we ask everybody to help their fellow Murloc in turn. While we don't consider being run through an instance help, anything relating to group quests, professions and most other situations are counted. We also throw on random guild events - everything from Gnome Races to Dance Parties to PvP events, depending on the host. Let's face it, grinding xp/rep/gear gets old, and anything we can do to offer a break from it, we do. We love it when members come out to enjoy the games!

What we're about:
-We're a community of gamers who really just want to play the game and have fun. We come together to help each other with problems when they pop up, and we tend to get to know one another. Murlocs are a fairly chatty crew, and we've got a lot of random banter going on most of the time. Sometimes it's even about the game!

Who we look for:
-As a community, we shine more as our members shine. We love when a member stands as an example for others, helps others just to help out, and starts projects that help the guild. We also appreciate a member who isn't afraid to ask for help, because we can't all go it alone.

The ranks and their expectations:

-Rank isn't everything in the Murlocs. Every murloc has the same rights to speak their minds and make their own decisions. Just because somebody is higher-ranking doesn't mean you have to automatically agree with them. Ranking is a reward for those who have done more for the guild. Remember, every Oracle was once a Puddlejumper, and every Puddlejumper is potentially an Oracle. How far any Murloc goes is really up to that Murloc. Here are the basics of each rank, and what we look for from anybody who wants to move up.

Puddlejumper - Sign up for the forums, read the rules, get to know your guildmates. Let us know what you think compared to what you expected.
Allowances - We'll offer you a mentor from the higher ranks to help you with guild-oriented questions and problems. If you're playing a new class, we can try to find a mentor of the same class to help with gameplay questions as well.

Coastrunner - Assist fellow guildmates in ways you feel you can contribute.
Allowances - We'll open our coffer's Mats and Consumables tabs to you.

Warrior - Kick up what you offer by a notch. Warriors are a more helpful, guild-oriented version of the Coastrunner.
Allowances - We'll give access to our guild's Greens tab, which generally consists of recipes and more uncommon mats. Also, you've got the right to apply to become a Tidehunter.

Tidehunter - At least once a week, we'll expect you to do something purely for guild benefit and let an officer know. You may also be asked to mentor newer members as well as those who are struggling.
Allowances - We'll let you into our Blues tab. We'll also let you sign up for PvE raids.

Tidecaller - Our Oracles will call on you for help, and we'll look for the same things we expected when you were a Tidehunter.
Allowances - Since you'll have a very good understanding of how the guild works, we'll include you in discussions on guild-affecting decisions. We'll also let you make judgment calls on inviting people.

Oracle - You will be responsible for handling situations that arise, guiding the guild's lower-ranked members, and advising the Lord Prophet in decisions.
Allowances - Full.

Again, rank does not make one Murloc more important than another. Every rank deserves the same respect and trust of the other ranks. Rank is also flexible. A Murloc who really shines can move up, and a Murloc who goes against the guild's best interests can move down. From Puddlejumper to Oracle, every Murloc represents the others, and should treat each other personably.

What is not allowed:

-Everybody has the right to say and do as they wish. As a community, though, we've got the rest of Kirin Tor watching us, and what the individual does reflects on the guild. We pride ourselves on being respected in the eyes of many other notable organizations on the server, and we do fight to keep the status. We also have to look out for one another, so we came up with these rules for the protection of our guild and guildmates.

- Threats and intentionally harmful behavior. Immediate removal.

- Spamming guild with nonsense completely unrelated to anything. Warning, then demotion if it persists. (Note - this isn't the same as conversation. This would be, say, being the only person talking about what you had for lunch while there's a large conversation about something, or constantly complaining about something minor)

- Disrespecting the wishes of your leadership. Penalty will depend on severity. We don't ask for much, but if we tell you to stop what you're doing, we mean it.

- Stealing from a guildmate or ninja looting. Immediate removal.

- Putting gear above the guild. Demotion. Hunting for an upgrade is one thing. Telling the guild you can't help because you're trying to PuG your 8th farming run for the day to get a trinket shows us that you may not be the kind of leader we're looking for.

- Using the guild for personal gain. Removal. We're a community, not a leveling guild.

Ways a member can help:

-We've had some questions as to what we consider helpful to the guild. These are just a few ideas; there are certainly more ways than this to help the guild.

Guild Assistance - Farming mats for guild use, donating gold to the bank, offering to help in runs that don't benefit your character, offering your professions for use by the guild.

Mentoring - Helping another member figure out a class or spec, helping another Murloc find their niche in the guild, offering advice about improving another person's abilities.

Heralding - Pointing out potential Murlocs to the guild, sending them to the forums to apply, helping the guild's overall reputation. We seek very like-minded people, so be sure that the person you're talking to is genuinely interested in being a Murloc first.

Games and Events - Participate in guild events, or start one yourself by getting in touch with an officer. We try to announce a week in advanced to provide ample notice for others, and an Oracle will need to sanction all events. PvP events must be sanctioned by our guild's Warmaster.

Raiding:
-We are not a raid guild. We are a guild that raids. With that said, Tidehunters can apply to guild PvE raids. Old-world raids are allowed for free sign-ups. Whoever is Raid Leader for the night may also allow lower-ranking members to join, and that's generally based on what that Leader sees in the member's potential.

Applying for Tidehunter:
-An applicant for Tidehunter must get in touch with an officer and set up an appointment. That member must plea his case before three officers, either in party chat or in /say as to keep the affair private. Those officers will decide, then act accordingly. Being turned down does not mean that you will never be able to uprank, it just means that you haven't quite met our expectations yet.

The Three Strke Policy:
-Sometimes things come up, and people get hotheaded. Provided that nothing serious occured, a person may be allowed up to three chances in the Murlocs. This applies only to people who leave guild for personal reasons, not to those who have been removed. It is based off of the member's guild history as well as the events that led to his departure. After three times gone, it is clear to us as officers that our guild is not the guild you are in search of.

Once again, thanks for taking the time to read this, and we're always looking forward to talking to you about anything that pops up.
